One of the most distinctive points of Oregon is the incredible book store, Powells. With four stories of twelve foot tall bookshelves, books line each shelf and are stacked high upon tables and | |
Over the midwinter break, my family traveled to Oregon to visit several of my cousins. With wonderful guides around the city of Portland, my family was able to experience a non-tourist adventure through the streets of Oregon. carts dispersed throughout the store. The selection is so vast that a giant board is needed to organize each genre of book onto different floor levels. As an introvert nerd, I was in heaven as I roamed the narrow passageways between the thousands of books. I loved how the smell of pages filled the entire air as soon as I walked into the building and the immense selection of diverse topics. The only regret I have going to this store was the lack of time I had to explore, even though we stayed there for over an hour. Along with the amazing book store, we also had the opportunity to eat our way through Portland. For lunch, we walked to the food trucks that literally lined a full block and parking lot. Each truck contained a variety of food ranging from Thai to Dumplings and Greek to Mexican. Everyone in my family got to chose their individual meal because there were so many options. Another somewhat secret of Portland was Voodoo Doughnuts. This shop sold diverse doughnuts that had a unique twist to them. For example, we were able to select fruit loop doughnuts or Hawaiian punch flavored cream inside the pastry. This shop is known for the bacon doughnuts that has bacon strips along the top of the frosting. Finally, we visited Sizzle Pie, which is a marvelous pizza parlor with really thin crust pizza, which is my favorite type of pizza. *Please comment if you have ever traveled to another state and the most exciting part of your trip!
