Sophomore Year
Two Thousand Fourteen - Two Thousand Fifteen
Biology and BioTechnology
Sophomore year was a new start to my high school career. I became much more involved in school activities by joining new clubs. Speech and Debate Club, CSF, Peer Tutoring, and Book Club were all new additions to my life and I loved the different experiences each one brought me. Being part of the school's community helped me meet people I typically wouldn't have been friends with and connected me to peers with similar interests. Although my first AP class was a little stressful, I'm still alive and ready for more challenges. This is the year I truly felt myself open up to both my close friends and classmates. I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone and tried to share my life with others despite any self-consciousness I have held onto for the past years. The biggest thing I learned this year actually had nothing to do with facts or figures or study tips. It was the fact that everyone has a story. As cliche as this may sound, each person has a struggle they have been forced to overcome and it is completely normal to have problems. Whether it is a mental issue, a personal habit, a troubling relationship, discrimination, financial difficulty, or a physical disability there are issues that life throws at you and everyone else in the world. However, I did also learn a lot about biology and biotechnology. From dissections to waiting thirty minutes for gels to run, the science classes this year were full of diversity and explored an extremely broad range of topics.
