Emmy Nam
I created this website as a freshman in high school and plan to continue updating it throughout my academic career. My main goal is to post my projects on this website and share my ideas in an easy and efficient way. My secondary goal is to blog about my personal life so you will be able to get to know me from a new perspective. And the last goal on my list is to update people on unique science experiences that I've had. This includes posting pictures, writing reviews, and informing people about museums, science fairs, summer programs, and my other experiences.
Notice: On each of my website pages that contains educational information concerning my school projects in high school, I posted a joke at the top of the page. (If it is a landing page with a description and picture on the right side) The punchline will be embedded within the text in the same color as the joke.
High School Freshman year I studied physics and the principles of engineering. We covered work, transfer of energy, impact force waves, optics, design cycle, electricity, solar energy and movement, compression and tensile strength, computer programming, soldering and circuit boards, and participated in many class discussions on theoretical physics, such as atoms, deep space, and particle movement.
High School Sophomore year I studied biology and biotechnology. Biotechnology is the use of the study of life for medical or industrial purposes. For example, this field entails a lot of PCR reactions and genetic manipulation and isolation. During the biology section of this year, our class explored evolution, ecology, and genetics.
High School Junior Year I studied chemistry and explored biology in more depth through AP Biology. Through chemistry I explored stoichiometry, significant figures, equilibrium, balancing equations, molar mass, and solubility guidelines. An overarching theme during this year was dealing with elements and manipulating equations in order to form balanced reactants and products. AP biology taught about life cycles, cells, genetics, enzymes, macro-molecules, and ecosystems in great detail. The year finished with a month long fetal pig dissection.
High School Senior Year I studied engineering design and computer science. In my engineering class I learned and practiced sketching and designing. I also explored using surveys, feedback, and big data to revise ideas to fit a product desired by consumers. In computer science, I used block-based, drag-and-click JavaScript coding in App Lab Studio Code to create games, such as hangman, where's Waldo, turtle drawings, and flashcards.
